A Sunny Mission Escape: San Francisco, CA

I’m a former elementary school teacher turned educational entrepreneur. I love hosting gatherings in our home for family and friends. I also love to travel, play outside, explore our beautiful city, and eat! We live in the Mission, so we get lots of sunshine. Our goal is for our space to be relaxed and comfortable, so we gravitate toward neutrals with pops of color. My husband loves cooking, so we have an herb garden in our outdoor living space, too. We love hosting friends and family whenever we can — gathering is really important to us.

Charming Cole Valley Rooftop Deck

Private outdoor space is hard to come by in San Francisco, and this rooftop deck is our sanctuary! We wanted a large and safe area for our kids to play and be messy, but also for the adults to lounge and socialize. Now, with our Outer, the space feels complete.

Backyard retreat in San Francisco, CA

As a family living in the Marina neighborhood, we are fortunate to have a backyard that is truly our oasis. We spend more time in our backyard than almost any room in our home and, as a result, wanted to make it comfortable, inviting and relaxing. We love our Outer sofa and Loveseat (that we can also configure into a sectional). Weekend downtime involves kicking our feet up and hanging out and reading (or napping) on our Outer furniture! We really love it!

Ocean Views from a Bay Area Patio

The ocean view is the most special part of my outdoor space. My house came with a great view of the ocean from the living room. I ended up building a second story deck to expand the view to the outdoors. Also, my awesome custom teal ladder that my friend Lawrence made for me gives me access to the roof to get an even better view of the waves 🌊. My friend, Eleanor, designed my yard, which is full of succulents and other drought-tolerant plants. It is very peaceful to hang out in my backyard.

An Extended Living Room with Sunset Views

Our Teak 4-Seat L Sectional is on our deck which is off our kitchen, which now, thanks to our new seating, gives us an entirely new room to the house. We spend hours out there, entertaining friends until late in the night, drinking morning tea, catching the sunsets, and just getting some peace.

Oceanside Hideaway in Northern California

I work at Berkeley Law where I run the Clinical program. My husband, Steve, is a nurse anesthetist at UCSF. In our spare time, Steve is a musician— he plays keyboards in a funk band called the Humidors and does a lot of recording— and I'm a writer. We both like to read, hike, watch TV, and hang out on our Outer furniture watching the ocean. Our college-aged daughter, Maud, joins us on occasion. We have a front yard and backyard, but our Outer furniture is on our upstairs deck which looks straight out into the Pacific Ocean. We also have a view of the hills (which are filled with hiking trails) as well as Muir Beach itself. Since the pandemic began, we have had to move all of our entertaining outdoors. Being able to sit on our comfortable Outer furniture while sipping cocktails with friends and watching the sun set over the ocean is one of the few true pleasures during this difficult time.

Two Oakland-Based Restaurateurs Little Oasis

My husband is a chef, and we moved from the East Coast to Oakland over a decade ago. We own a wood-fired bagel shop together. We are lucky to have a small oasis of a backyard in Oakland. There is a creek running behind our house and a small stand of trees. We had a brick patio put in, which is where our Teak Sectional, Armchairs, and Coffee Table are set up. We also have a few garden beds and a side yard perfect for playing badminton.
